MAG - PS3 Users

Anyone looking for somthing to do over the holidays (who owns a PS3) can download the MAG beta from the Playstation store.. beta is free till Jan 10th.


The game will utilize a new server architecture[6] to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads, with 4 squads forming a platoon, and 4 platoons forming a company.[7][8] Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system.

Kinda like Battlefield/Planetside... somthing to waste time on.

its not supposed to be planetside. its MAG. 128 VS. 128 people in squad oriented objective game play. there is a squad on the other team to do the opposite of what youre doing to give you a fight.

yes, its planetside in a sense...but i think being the first and only game of its type any game will always be related to PSide. but then.......it is sony 0_o

now, seeing as i dont have a ps3 anymore :( i havent played, but i personally would get a ps3 for what i think and have heard this game is going to be. :D

Yeah when I heard about MAG it pushed me to buy a PS3 over Xbox. I dont regret my decision at all because I have bluetooth devices, it connects to my tv with HDMI, and its a freakin blu ray.

Anyone play MW2 on PS3? So fun. So easy.

Beta re-opens Jan 4th, anyone with a PS3 get on it with me and try it out. It certainly doesn't have the depth of Planetside but I think it'll be a fun game. It has character advancement and a pretty deep tactical and leadership system

MAG isn't that fun. Grenade spam is worst(or about tied) with PlanetSide.

I noticed most of the players are horrible at FPS's, sniping is way too easy and yes there are a lot of nades at times.

Yeah I was telling WeAre last night, I've played for 2 days and now that I know the maps I basically run around killing everyone. The people playing this game are the leftovers who were dominated in Call of Duty and came here. I joined SVER which I would compare to VS in Planetside. It has the least amount of people but I've ran into some really good players. I think I've only lost 3 games out of 30+. I think if we got 2-3 people playing this it would be annihilation, its a teamwork-based game and I do very well just running solo as it is.

BTW I'm on Raven side Desp. It was low pop when I first made my character.. now it's pop is usually 2nd highest, sometimes highest.

I like Ravens guns but it seems to be a noob magnet. What level are you? I've played a lot I'm approaching 20

As I told him, the game is OK for a console shooter. Frustrating controls for us PC gamers, especially if you arent used to them for shooters.

random factoids:

-cool persistant faction warfare ala PS

-Medics are pretty nifty, rezzing people super quick with this little spray gun thing, looks lame but its fun, especially when I can't shoot accuratly beyond 10m with those blasted thumb sticks. I plan on probably going Valor and SUPER MEDIC/Shotgun/LMG sprinting around the map rezzing folks.


-LVL up system with unlocks similar to BF series, not MW2. Kinda clunky. In fact, in a word, MAG=CLUNKY.

-the characters are stiff as hell compared wtih MW2 and other games,

-changing items is cumbersome,

-bipods can't be deployed while crouched,

-nade spam like mentioned is LAME(large kill radius, little warning,
2 per spawn, x64 players/18sec max respawn....UGH),

Once you played PS most of these MMOFPS wannabes just can't compete. I would stick with MW2 or BF Badcompany 2 in March, or even AvP2 in a couple weeks for your shooter needs on the console. After all, who cares if you can battle 256 players if the mechanics are garbage?

Bad Company 2 for 360 will probably be my next game purchase.


That is if I don't impulse buy a PS3 beforehand. The general talent pool seems to be worse on PS3 than on Xbox.

I love the look of Bad Company 2 but it's only 24 players! One of the reasons I like MAG is for the 64-player game mode, Sabotage. I think I'm gonna buy the game

All this talk about player count.. I might acctually reinstall Joint Ops Typhoon rising. Buggy and shit but fun.

And on a side note I picked up Uncharted 2.. that has multiplayer so Ill have to check it out.

i bought it today however and was messin around with it (roomie has a ps3) so yeah. he made a SVER as well, srsly....im diggin it. i plan on picking up a PS3 shortly for this game.

I'm playing MAG now, too, under the clan tag CR5 (lol).

Ghosts of the Revolution wouldn't fit, and GOTR was 1 letter too many, so we went with Ghost Elite, tag "CR5".

I just picked up the machine gun yesterday in MAG, K/D went up to 3.25 and I just went 69-5 lol. So many noobs in this game, when are some DT gonna pick this up? I promise you endless lols

I was thinking about getting it. But I dunno. Only 10 maps and not much clan support keeps me from doing so (that and all you queers are on SVER).

I just want to see how Zipper maintains the game. Stats pages, clan vs. clan matchups, an upgrade to the group system, more maps, more weapons...if they really deliver, I'm going to take it much more seriously. Right now I built up the Ghost Elite clan to about 35 people and I'm waiting to see how it goes from here. Hey, it's free to play, I've certainly gotten my $60 out of it so far.

I'm trying to sell MAG on ebay...ugh I can't believe some of you guys like it so much. It's like a bastardized version of PS, with crappier graphics(yes), clunky controls, and very low replay value when it comes down to it.

And the respec system...sweet jeesus what a joke. Talk about a grind, and unlock PS you can't just wait a few hours and train out, you are stuck with that POS scope or rifle that doesn't even make your gun or character worth much until you add other tiered stuff...

The only positive memory I have from it was playing with Zandordun and company the other day, and like most games, if you pkay with a group it raises the fun factor, but just can't compete. I have just played far too many better FPS games in my day to settle for this.

I will be looking into BFBC2, AvP(demo was meh, omg GRAPHICS bad? why?) and might even finally plunk down with MW2 but I hear a TON OF issues of it bricking consoles as it's apparently hard on system/lens.
