So, I got in an accident last night. Apparently stop signs are optional in this town.
I was at a 4 way stop and was in the left turn lane. There was another car coming down the way, and a car to the left of me that was coming to the stop sign. So, since I was the first stopped, I went to make my turn. The car that hit me wasn't even to to the stop sign when I started to pull out, even though she claimed she stopped. Well, I looked that way and saw she wasn't going to stop. When I saw it coming, I floored it on my car hoping to avoid it, but didn't - she didn't even slow down at all. She smacked the right rear of the car, tearing my fake bumper (fiberglass covering) off the car, and smashing into the tire, bending it. She was going fast enough to set her air bags off, and her front end is pretty smashed in.
Everyone was ok, although I think the driver of the other car hurt her hand when the air bag went.
I have a crude drawing of it attached - I'm the red car doing my left turn and the other driver is in the blue (she had a red car too, but thats confusing). The green car was the other car that was at the stop sign just after I stopped (it was also red lol). They stayed to give a witness report to the cops that she didn't stop or even slow down either, so more bonus points to me.

My poor car... I haven't even had it a year yet - It's a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. I'll take some pictures later tonight or tomorrow, after the body shop calls with the estimate, as then I'll know they have the car in.

That's shitty man. Glad you're alright. Just goes to show you, you cannot trust anyone but yourself on the road.

Here are some pics of the damage.
Got the estimate; its at around $2200 right now, but he thinks the suspension might be fucked up, so that'll go higher. Oh well, I'm not paying for it.

Glad your alright man, I guess that confirms all the prejudice against women and driving.

We don't have signs or laws on driving in Britain, we just have gentlemens agreement which is accepted nation wide.

We were idiots and didn't adopt the roundabout theory, so now it's too late. I really like the European system of using roundabouts instead of stop signs in several places, it doesn't stop the flow of traffic at all but is still safe.
We have "all way" or "four way" stop sign crossings in areas that are highly travelled, mainly housing areas, where there are people and children everywhere and no vehicle would have a true "right of way". The rule is that you leave the stop sign area in the order in which you arrived, so since Anti got to the area first, he would be the first to leave.
A tad confusing for some people, although we are supposed to know that the big red octagon sign that says STOP in all caps, means "Stop moving before you go farther than this sign".
Glad you're alright Anti.

It's suppose to be the vehicle that arrived first and came to a complete stop or should you both arrive at the exact same time, the vehicle to the right goes first.

In the Netherlands it's just a set rule that traffic that comes from the right goes first (unless overruled by traffic lights or road signs), which seems a whole lot smarter and easier.

Speaking of roundabouts... our town is going to get a couple soon. They are doing some 4-lane expansion on a highway, and ours is the last part. And the state decided to put acouple roundabouts in our area. They even made up a brochure about roundabouts lol: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/roundabouts/pdfs/FinalRoundaboutBrochure.pdf

I doubt your suspension is that bad probably just needs to be lined up again, The car really doesn't look that bad tbh i expected it to be alot worse.

The wheel actually got pushed in alot - I went to see my car on Monday since it was in the shop, and I saw it with the wheel off. There are a couple parts of the suspension that is getting replaced - they might be ok, but the shop is replacing them anyways to be safe.
And yeah, it could have been a lot worse.
sry to hear about this av.
roundabouts are superior. my town has a couple, theyre fast and rarely get traffick-ed. also stupid ppl go left (clockwise, the wrong way) around them and its hilarious
