Ok guys, I'm on the search for a bike. It's my first bike, and I'm a short ass. 5'5" but I don't think that will cause that much of a problem.

Anyways here are my choices.

Right, I've had a few bikes. I started on a Suzuki Bandit 600, then had a SV600 (new version than what you're looking at) and now have a Triumph Street Triple 675. My old man has the Triumph Speed Triple 1000.

If I were you, get the SV650 as it's your first bike. Bikes 1 and 3, are something to look at a year down the road from now. Their riding position is further forward and lower, and as a new rider the SV's position is more upright and as a new rider you need to get used to whats around you.

Seriously mate, don't think "woo sports racer, looks cool to my mates" - you will no doubt end up dead and not from your own fault - you just will not have the peripheral vision using them and you need to work up to that level after a year of riding.

The Sv650 will do 60 in around 3-4 seconds or so, and there's not much will keep up. Suzuki's are great bikes, and I think the streetfighter (SV650) is a much better choice for you I really do.

Next time Im on vent we can have a chat if you want? Ive been riding for about 6 yrs now :)

Heh I'm looking at the cheapest bikes atm ;)

If it were up to me I would so rock a Triumph!

And I don't know anybody else that rides bikes so it will be just me in the country by myself...much like I do with my Subaru now ;)

With the SV650 I'm a little nervous at the front end of it...some aftermarket lights and stuff...

Much thanks Kanya.

You can pimp that naked fender to look shit loads better than a stock one..and more than you could to something like a ninja

Heres a pic of my dad's speed triple - ill take some of my street triple - they look nothing like the original factory bikes now.

Hes changed his exhausts to remus race exhausts amd the rear hugger and underbelly now have carbon fibre jobs on it - these pics are pre-modified but some things have been added like the rear set box etc.

do yourself a favor and don't get a crotch rocket, too uncomfortable to ride and a good way to get yourself in trouble.

get yourself a HD low rider or something equivalent imo

qfe, crotch rockets FTL, IMO,

they look worse
they sound more gay and high pitched and annoying
they PROBABLY arent as comfy (never ridden one)
more dangerous
and lastly:
just because you're asian doesnt mean you need to get a crotchrocket!

Who the fuck at our age can spend 11 grand on something that they only ride for 4-7 mths of the year more like 4 for him since he lives in Minnesota.

Get the second bike, I had a ninja and the first one you are looking at is a POS..

ever heard of payments on a loan?

that 4 months will pay for the gas he wouldve used driving something else in a couple years. that bike will get 70 something mpg.

it does come down to taste though. if the guy wants a crotch rocket he wants a crotch rocket. I would just never get one of those cause i would rather live

I understand that but 11 grand for your first bike is stupidity..

There is a saying "There are 2 types of riders ones that have been down and ones that are going down."

Learn how to ride then spend the big bucks.

Agreed. Get a used 1/2 decent bike. Trash it and learn to ride/save up. Then get what you really want.

Thanks for all the helps peeps!

Anyways Kanya I have about 4k to spend on a bike at the moment and I live in St. Paul Minnesota.

I don't really want to spend more than 3.5 though since I will need all my gear and stuff.

I'm not just looking for a crotch rocket...it just seems like those are the cheapest. I'm looking for anything that I can take into the country and just cruise...and rock out with the 40+ MPG.

Merci.

The reason the "crotch rockets" are cheaper is that more than likely they have been thrashed boy racer style by the previous owner. You don't get a sports bike and NOT thrash it hence the reason theyre cheaper.

I still maintain you should get something like the SV - if you like the full faring at the front, you can buy them seperately and add it to the bike later.

I will have a good look online for you tonight, I'm 5'6'' so I'll bear in mind the height and suitability of each bike - Ive tried a few in my time and found many just too tall for me.

A great bike for you would be a Suzuki Bandit

I just looked around here and found a 2002 Suzuki Bandit 600 with 6k miles.

I do like that the handles are down way low.

I looked at kellys blue book and it says it's worth around 2700...I just emailed him to see if it is still for sale and I offered 2500 cash.

But anything still goes right now...I have a meeting with the other guy to let me just sit on the SV on Saturday.

In all honesty, I hope you get the bandit as you're about the same height as me. It's a great bike as your first bike, very easy to use and maintain and a load of custom stuff you can get for it too.

The SV is good, but I am so glad a bandit was my first bike. It's just a fun fun bike with plenty of power and it looks good. When you decide to move up to another bike they hold their value very well as most beginners are told to get a bandit - you wont lose much cash on it at all.

Well I've made my choice!

It's a 2006 red Sv650 naked baby!

I've gotten on it and I can't get my heels on the ground, but that should be ok!

Kanya
05-10-2009, 04:19 PM
hey man, as long as your toes tocuh the ground and you feel stable thats all that matters - i cant put my heels on the ground either especially with my Triumph, its a bit higher than my old SV.

great choice of bike and get yer pics up when you get it!!

(oh and naked is the way forward - in my recent bike mag the compared naked and non naked to see which one "saved your license" - the naked ones won!)
